May is here and how happy we all are - the days are long, the  sky is increasingly blue and after a long, cold winter it’s fantastic to feel the sun on our faces again.

Spring  is here, wherever you look, and from the wisteria flowering in Kensington to the daffodils emerging in our Hampstead neighbourhood you can see and feel it.  That sense of revival, rebirth, renewal -  no wonder we’re all smiling again.

Of course, May is always a popular month for those wishing to visit London.  And even if it’s still a bit chilly - especially in the evenings -  all you need is a light jacket, some comfy walking shoes and an umbrella  and you’re all set!

So what do you want to do?  Take in a show…try out a hot new restaurant…wander in Hyde Park…visit one of the capital’s top museums?  The city is at your feet and it’s all up to you.  But if you’re not sure, here are a few of our ideas for enjoying your time in London this spring…

1. Fiddler on the Roof - 24th May to 19th July

With its run at the Regent’s Park Open Theatre last year hailed as magnificent (not to mention a complete sell-out!)  The acclaimed production of Fiddler on the Roof is now transferring to the London Barbican

Set in the small Jewish village of Anatevka in early 20th-century Russia, this classic musical It follows Tevye, a poor milkman, as he tries to maintain his religious and cultural traditions while his daughters challenge those customs with their modern views on love and marriage.

The story explores themes of family, faith, and change, set against a backdrop of growing political unrest and anti-semitic tension. Through memorable songs like “Tradition” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” its universal themes and emotional depth still resonate with audiences today, making Fiddler on the Roof a timeless and powerful experience.   Tickets are selling fast so hurry up and book!

2. The ABBA Boat Party - 24th May

Come on, who doesn’t like to sing along to ABBA songs?  (Disclosure, the writer recently attended the ABBA Voyage concert in east London and danced her heart out).  But seriously guys, what better way to spend an afternoon than sailing up the River Thames on a ‘disco cruise’ whilst enjoying the sounds of that fabulous Swedish pop group?

As you glide down the river, enjoy live performances by two incredible ABBA tribute singers, take in fantastic city views and grab a tipple from a fully-stocked bar.   Dressing up in sequined dresses, knee high white boots and white jumpsuits is very much encouraged - after all, it’s all about channeling your inner diva!

The boat leaves from Blackfriars pier at 1pm sharp (you can board any time after 12.30) and gives you four amazing hours of classics like ‘Waterloo’. ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ and ‘Thank You For the Music’.  So whether you’re a die hard fan or just looking for some fun, get yourself down to central London for an unforgettable afternoon…

4. ‘Pirates’ exhibition at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich - until 4th January 2026

Take a deep dive into the world of piracy at The Pirates exhibition at the National Maritime Museum, which blends myth and reality to tell the true stories of history’s most infamous seafarers. From legendary figures like Blackbeard and Anne Bonny to lesser-known pirates from around the world, the exhibition explores who these people really were and what drove them to a life at sea. It delves into the brutal conditions aboard pirate ships, the complex politics of colonial trade, and the myths perpetuated by popular culture.
